All presenters’ names and affiliations

Brief abstract
This workshop is aimed at introducing and illustrating the process of evidence-based practice (EBP) in AAC, including the following: asking a well-built question, searching for evidence, appraising the evidence, applying the evidence, and evaluating its impact. In terms of the first step, the audience will learn of a template aimed at formulating well-built questions. In terms of searching and appraising the evidence, the presenter will emphasize strategies that allow practitioners to successfully navigate evidence-based information sources and apply key quality indicators. This involves being mindful of time constraints practitioners face as well as varying levels of EBP knowledge and skills. In doing so, the presenter will evoke the 5-s model of evidence-based information sources proposed by Haynes (2006), including systems, synopses, summaries, syntheses, and studies. The integration of clinical/educational expertise, relevant stakeholder perspectives, and appraised evidence are most critical when formulating a practical decision. Finally, ideas for evaluating the impact of the decision will be shared.
