13th Biennial Conference - International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Main Conference: August 4-7, 2008

Proposals were selected based on quality, content area, significance, and program balance. Short abstracts for each presentation will be published in the Conference Final Program. Extended abstracts (when provided) will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Both will be provided to all Main Conference registrants at no cost.

Presentation Formats
There will be three types of presentation formats:

• 70 minute oral presentations
• 30 minute oral presentations
• Poster presentations. Posters will be displayed for a half-day period. Authors will be at their poster during a scheduled unopposed period.

Presentation Types
There are three types of presentations:

• Personal Experience: Presents stories, perspectives and ideas of people who use AAC and/or their family members
• Clinical or Educational presentation: Describes an original or innovative clinical or educational program or procedure, presents outcome data, and discusses the program in relation to theoretical models
• Research presentation: Presents original research, a meta-analysis of the literature, and/or an in depth description of a theoretical model related to AAC

Topics
A broad range of topics relevant to the AAC field has been included in the program. Presentations will cover the following topics: Access, Advocacy, Assessment, Challenging Behavior, Employment, Family, Functional Device Use, Intervention, Language Acquisition, Leisure, Literacy, Outcomes, Theoretical Models/Issues, Service Delivery, Technology, Unaided Communication (gestures, signs).

They may also deal with a particular population (e.g., Aphasia, Apraxia, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Cognitive Impairment, Degenerative Disease, Dementia, Developmental Delays, Intellectual Disabilities, Motor Impairment, Sensory Deficits, Traumatic Brain Injury).

In keeping with the Leadership theme of the conference and the 25th anniversary of ISAAC’ some presentations have a Leadership or historical perspective.

Instructional Levels
Presentations will cover a range of instructional levels, from beginner to advanced.

Language
The majority of presentations will be in English. Simultaneous translation English to French will be available in the Plenary Session and in a variety of concurrent sessions. All presentations with titles in French will be presented in French. A limited amount of sessions will be bilingual.
